More stories from colleagues- In addition, I just wanted to share a “feel good frenum story”. I saw an 18mos old (thanks for the referral Sharon) recently and the toddler underwent a maxillary frenum release about 2 wks ago. We were a little concerned how he’d do due to his age but he did great (they did use a local anesthetic). There was such an immediate, profound difference for this little one. Talk about “from confusion to clarity”! His parents report that immediately his speech was noticeably clearer, he no longer had oral aversions and would let his teeth be brushed, he smiled

Just about all of the PTTs I release in my office have minimal "gulps" prior to the release (though a lot of effort) and loud, rapid gulps immediately after with pain reduced to zero in all the moms who have not had their nipples horribly damaged by the infant and to level 3 in those who have. Immediate evidence of a successful release is: 1. Much deeper latch, 2. Little to no discomfort on nursing, 3. Finally feeling the "snake-like" peristalsis of the tongue, and 4. Loud gulps with long jaw excursion + pause

more and so on.
